This campaign is a virtual ruck event lasting 6 weeks and is intended for creating a back story for Saga of the Ruckers.

To participate register at Codeberg. This will be used for all official communication.

Next read the welcome post and comment your role, name of the player, and optionally your backstory of the player.

This campaign has a #difficulty = 5.

Story

The six Ruck Masters look down upon their upcoming disciples awaiting to gain knowledge and wisdom. They patiently await as you enter their presence. You carefully choose your first master, who bestows all of its wisdom onto you and says

Let the insight of ROLE be fruitful in your upcoming adventure. Return to us when you seek new insight from us!

You gain 5 levels in your chosen role. Though you are confused on how to use this new insight and go back to the masters.

That is quite silly of us not to bestow the activation ritual. To activate your insight you will need to do 25 burpees.

You are both surprised that there is a ritual and that it is a whopping 25 burpees!

Session 1

You question yourself, what does the master mean by the ritual, and go back to the master.

As soon as you are about to speak, the master breaks your train of thought and says,

All future questions can be directed to the my disciple, the Game Master, also known as the GM, but sometimes new players, call them the PM, the pain master.

Looking around, you see a person that does not look like the other masters, you assume that this is the GM. You go up to them and ask,

Are you the GM?

You only get a nodding response.

I have a question about this ritual. How can I picture this ritual and how does it work? What abilities do I gain from it?

The GM explains,

The ritual is doing 25 burpees. This means each time you want to activate one of your Insight of the role you chosen. You’re required to do 25 burpees. After that, you get the power of the insight, and you can enact it.

The player questions further,

Enacting power of Insight? How can I picture this?

Imagine this. You are out on an adventure, and you are tasked to do an exercise. This exercise requires weight movement, distance, and struggle. You, as your role, will look upon the exercise and think to yourself. I cannot do the exercise as prescribed to my best ability. Therefore, to make my life easier, I will change up the exercise in such a manner that both me and my party will spare some sweat and tears.

You think to yourself, me and my party?

What do you mean party? I am only here alone.

The GM replies,

Although you’re all alone here, there are many others like you who are participating in the struggles put on to them by the Ruck Masters. You don’t see them, but you’ll feel their presence, their knowledge, their engagement, and their keen sense of constantly striving forward.

WOD 1

Ruck at least 1 mile away from your home position and every 10min a random encounter happens. The timer starts again after finishing the previous random encounter. Insight only lasts for 1 random encounter.

Workout 1

The time cap is 30min for the workout.

- 50 meters of bear crawl with the ruck
- 50 ruck squats
- 50 four-count flutter kicks with ruck above head.

The next round, you will reduce each exercise by 10 reps or meters.

This means

- 40 meters bear crawl,
- 40 ruck squats
- 40 four-count flatter kicks.

Until no reps are left or the time has run out. Insight only lasts for 1 round of the workout. No random encounters happen during the workout.

Session 2

At the end of the week the player goes back to the Ruck Masters and complains

How in this world am I supposed to do 25 whopping burpess per Insight. It is obnoxiously high and doesn’t seem like it’s physically possible to do everything that’s required for the me.

The Ruck Masters hear the pity, question it, and say

We hear you, we know it’s hard but this is what it takes to be as strong and wise as we are.

The player grumbles,

This is not what I signed up for, it’s way too much.

No response comes from the Ruck Masters, the GM suggests an alternate calculation, which rewards the player if they do all the required tasks per session.

Initial count = 25
Total role level count = RLVL
Total completed weekly WODs = WCNT
Priming of Insight with burpees = BURPEE
---
BURPEE = 25 - WCNT * RLVL
---
With a minimum of 1 burpee.

The Ruck Masters look at the proposal, think for a minute, and just give a head nod.

The Insight Burden and Priming of Insight can be taken from the Player’s table.

WOD 2

Ruck at least 1 mile away from your home position and every 10min a random encounter happens. The timer starts again after finishing the previous random encounter. Insight only lasts for 1 random encounter.

Workout 2

The time cap is 30min for the workout.

Each Insight only lasts for one exercise. For example if applied onto push ups, then applies for all push ups. After the lunges can apply a new Insight for the same exercise.

- 10 bear complex with ruck
- 20 4ct flutter kicks with ruck overhead
- 30 push ups
- 40 4ct jumping jacks
- 50 2ct lunges with ruck
- 40 4ct jumping jacks
- 30 push ups
- 20 4ct flutter kicks with ruck overhead
- 10 bear complex with ruck

Session 3

The player comes back to the Ruck Masters and being stumped, questions

I just don’t feel the presence of the other participants of my party, am I doing something wrong?

The Ruck Masters reply

You are one of many players who has come to us. We are not at fault if you fail to communicate to your team.

With frustration the player is about to ruck off when the GM interjects

As a team you should feel the other team mates. Thus at the beginning of the week, each of your mates are permitted to give you one free Insight of their choice that counts towards their burden and are required to prime for it.

Clear text:

Let there be at least two players in a team, Player A and Player B.

Player A chooses an Insight that they know they will be using during the WOD, thus they provide it for the team.

Player B can use the provided Insight from Player A without needing to prime for it, since Player A will take care of the priming.

The player stops in their tracks, turns around, and listens carefully. After getting the full information from the GM, they continue their ruck with hope in their eyes that it will be better.

WOD 3

  • Ruck at least 2 miles to your chosen workout location with a random encounter happening every 10 min.
  • Insight used on an encounter only lasts for the duration of the encounter.
  • Random encounters only happen during the ruck to the workout location and not during the workout or after the workout.

Workout 3

There is an optional time cap of 30 min for the workout. All Insight only lasts for one round.

This workout is done by doing 2ct animal movement to create the distance for the burpee overhead back variety back to the start.

At the start of each round roll

to decide the animal movement with

0: bear crawl
1: crab walk

The first round:

- 50 2ct animal movement with ruck pull
- burpee overhead back with ruck back to start

Reduce by 10 2ct animal movement each consecutive round.

Session 4

The player goes back to the Ruck Masters and comments

I was finally able to experience the presence of the party. One thing I have noticed is that every time I do a WOD the random encounters become more difficult to succeed. Why is this and can I influence it some how?

The Ruck Masters pointed out

See we told you last time that communication is key to get the benefits from the WODs. And to answer your curiosity, each time you do or do not do what you are suppose to we notate it. This influences how we decide what kind of discipline is required to learn the underlying lesson. If you do not act to our standards you and the party get an infraction, thus it is in your best interest to motivate both yourself and the party to meet the standards!

The player is shocked to learn that each of their actions has a cost factor accompanying it. The GM explains further in details

Severity is the measurement used to evaluate the amount of infractions. When a player does not fulfill their weekly duty of doing the WOD, the severity increases. If all players complete the weekly WOD and their Challenge(s), then the severity decreases or stays the same. Thus motivating your party is key to the success of the adventure.

With these informative words, the player continues to push themself and is eager to motivate the rest the party to do the same.

WOD 4

  • Ruck at least 2 miles to your chosen workout location with a random encounter happening every 5 min.
  • Insight used on an encounter only lasts for the duration of the encounter.
  • Random encounters only happen during the ruck to the workout location and not during the workout or after the workout.
  • Count the amount of random encounters that happen, this number is required for the workout.

Workout 4

Let the random encounter count be #random_encounter and exercise count be #exercise = severity + difficulty + #random_encounter.

There are 3 rounds of exercises to choose from:

- 100 2ct low crawl with ruck
- 100 2ct lunges with ruck
- 100 burpee ruck overhead back

If the #exercise is…

  • … 15 or more then choose 3 unique rounds of exercises.
  • … between 10 (including 10) and 15 (excluding 15) then choose 2 unique rounds of exercises.
  • … less than 10 then choose 1 unique round of exercises.

Insight only lasts for 1 round of exercises.

Session 5

The player comes back limping to the Ruck Masters and in a weak voice says

I do not understand how that workout was suppose to teach me discipline!?

The Ruck Masters reply

You had two opportunities to learn. First you could have picked up the ruck pace of the initial 2 miles and thereby you would have encountered less random encounters, this is return could have reduced the rounds of exercises. And second if you party achieved to do the required WOD and Challenge(s), then the severity would have decreased. This shows us that your party has the will power to better themselves.

The player thinks to themself

How could I have missed that tactical mistake of speeding up the initial 2 miles.

The Ruck Masters acknowledge the player’s agony and in a comforting tonality

You are not the first player that has faulted on such circumstances. It has happened to the best of us and that is why we train to pick up such trivialities.

Continuing in a encouraging voice

Next you should learn about carrying your own load. In a team lead event you are responsible to carry your own load and at the same time pick up the slack of your team mates to accomplish the task at hand in the set time frame. This means occasionally/frequently you will be required to carry more than your load. To not become the burden onto the team you should be training at least with event weight.

The player is shocked that they are getting sympathy from the Ruck Masters and now has more respect towards them. Before the player trots off the GM shares

Before you go out and train as if it were an event, remember only to train as hard as possible to stay injury free. Even small injuries will steal the growth potential of upcoming workouts.

The player takes in the cautious word of the GM before returning to the training grounds.

WOD 5

  • This workout starts right away.
  • Make sure to take the time to create a strategy so that you will need to do the least amount of work.
  • Each Insight is limited to 100 #reps and reduced #reps count as if they weren’t reduced.
  • You are required to do at least 100 #reps of each category: ruck, no straps, animal, and compound.

Workout 5

The goal is to achieve 1 000 000 lbs * m and call it #work_total. Each category has a different multiplication factor.

CategoryFactor#reps
Rucking11 m
No straps101 m
Animal252 ct
Compound501 or 2 ct

Let ruck_weight be the ruck weight in lbs. Let factor be the specific factory respective to its category. Then each #work respective to its factor and #reps is calculated by

#work = ruck_weight * factor * #reps

And the #work_total as the sum of every #work.

Categories

  • No Straps: suitcase carry, overhead ruck walk, ruck in front no straps
  • Animal: 2 ct bear crawl with ruck, 2 ct crab walk with ruck
  • Compound: 2 ct lunges with ruck, 2 ct low crawl with ruck, 1 ct burpee ruck overhead back

Example

Let the ruck weight be 30 lbs.

  • 100 2 ct low crawl and hope can reduce distance to 40% which grants 30 * 50 * 100 = 150 000 lbs * m.
  • 100 2 ct bear crawl which grants 30 * 25 * 100 = 75 000 lbs * m.
  • 1000 m suitcase carry which grants 30 * 10 * 1000 = 300 000 lbs * m.
  • 15.833 km rucking which grants 30 * 1 * 15833 = 475 000 lbs * m.
  • Totalling to 1 000 000 lbs * m = 150 000 + 75 000 + 300 000 + 475 000.

Hints

  • Higher ruck weight means less distance.
  • Try to use the full Burden of each role.

Random Encounter

On each time prescribed frequency random encounter, usually 10 min, you will roll a

to see if a random encounter occurs. The roll needs to be higher than campaign difficulty + severity for an encounter not to happen. On a fail, roll a
determine the encounter, which is taken from the table of encounters.

Random Encounter Table

RollExercise
1Critical fail, read below.
2Exercise Pyramid with push ups and a height of 5.
3The Four Counters as 1 set with 10 reps.
44 Extension Walk as 5 sets.
5Abs Crusher.
6Lunges Squared as 5 sets.
7Slow Motion Arms as 3 sets of 5 reps.
8The Heavy Purse as 3 sets of 5 reps or meters.
9Slow Motion Full as 3 sets of 5 reps.
10No encounter this time and next time.

Critical Fail

  1. Roll a
(based off date of month) and do the random encounter twice.
  2. If the first roll was a 1 and then 10, these cancel each out and the next time the encounter is required.
  3. If you roll another 1 then the random encounter is chosen based off of the day of the week and do 4 times the prescribed amount:
